English law:

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005

Coming into force on the 6th of April 2006, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 concerns the health and safety prescriptions applicable in case of workers' exposure to noise. It transposes Directive 2003/10/EC into English law.

European law:

Directive 2003/10/CE

This European directive sets out the minimum prescriptions with regard to protection of workers against the risks resulting from exposure to noise and particularly the risks to hearing.

French law:

Labour code

The labour code regulates exposure of employees to noise at their workplace (articles R4431-1 to R4437-4 only available in french).

Table 42

Occupational deafness has been recognised as an "occupational disease" since the decree of 10th April 1963 when it fulfils the conditions of table 42 (only available in french). This table specifies the characteristics of the disease, the types of work and activities liable to cause it.

Decree 2006-892

Published in the Official Journal on 19th July 2006, decree 2006-892 (only available in french) concerns the safety and health prescriptions applicable in case of workers' exposure to noise. It transposes Directive 2003/10/EC into French law.

Belgian law:

Royal Decree of 16th January 2006

Published on 15th February 2006 in the Belgian Official Gazette, this royal decree (available in french and nederland) concerns protection of health and safety of workers against the risks associated with noise at the place of work. It transposes Directive 2003/10/EC into Belgian law.
